What it does

Short for Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide. It is thought to help the brain shift into deeper, slower-wave sleep and to blunt the body's stress response. What people look into it for: • Falling asleep faster and waking less during the night • More deep, restorative sleep rather than just more hours • Feeling calmer and more resilient under stress • Some reports of reduced chronic pain and easier withdrawal from stimulants Human research is old and small, and results vary a lot between individuals.

Mechanism

Poorly characterised; may modulate delta-wave sleep and corticotropin release.
